June 13th - 20th
Ceremony: June 17th
The Avery Hotel
4573 Moran Rd
Murphys, CA 95247
Don't worry - you won't be bored! There's something to do for everyone every night and all day. Arnold is awash with cool activities for you to explore. Here's a list of the fun times we will be providing for the group:
A CHANGE IN VENUE
The Avery Hotel is a pretty sweet place to hang out. It has a pool table, a saloon (!!!) and a lovely wrap around porch. It also has:
One very large industrial kitchen for us all to use with two stoves. It's equipped with everything you'll need to cook and eat with but please do your own dishes. Pans, silverware, plates, cups, and mugs included.
2 BBQs: BBQ-ing for all!
4 Bathrooms + 3 Showers: BYO towels. We will provide body wash and shampoo in each shower but please keep your showering to a minimum. We'll all need to "Navy shower" - that is, rinse, turn off water, soap up, rinse off, and clear out. We appreciate everyone working together to minimize the burden on the septic system.
Refrigeration: Good question - we're not sure :-/ Please bring coolers to store your food supplies. There is a large grocery store 5 minutes down the road as well as multiple restaurants. So you may be comfortable planning day by day.
Power: We'll bring some power strips for people to take over the chargers but try to minimize your power needs while you're with us.
WiFi: Nope. There are many cafes in the area where you can stop in to connect.
Old Timey Bedrooms
Our new venue can accommodate fewer folks than the last one, and thanks for baring with us during this change. If you've been offered a room, expect a full bed and a sink of your own.
If you'd like to join us for camping, dust off that tent and get ready for awesomeness! You'll need all the normal tenting supplies like sleeping bag, pillow, layers, flashlight/headlamp, coolers for food storage, and any other creature comforts. There is an acre of flat area around the Avery so plenty of room for all of us.
Our new location is now accessible by a real road in a touristy area so there are many low-cost options just a few minutes down the road. The hotel has a huge backyard that is available for trailer and RV camping (if that sounds good to you) and there are also nearby hotels and AirBnBs (please adjust your dates and the number of people you're bringing). If you find a place with additional bedrooms and you'd like to share the cost with someone, we can help you link up with other guests.
NO CHANGE IN HEART
Wedding? This Ain't No Stinkin' Wedding...
Mike was asked for his ideal wedding and he said "escape to the woods with everyone for a week." So that's exactly what we're doing! The two of us will be there all week, and we'd love you to join us for as long as you're able.
We know it's difficult to give up a week of your lives so we are trying to make this as easy on you as possible. Don't think of this as a wedding - think of it as a camping vacation with people you love (or are going to love) and get ready for a relaxing and super fun time.
So What Is It?
We rented out a hotel built in 1853 and it is currently setup in a historic manner. We'll be both inside and outside during our week together, and please bring comfortable clothing and footwear. Please bring anything you'd want to have while camping. It'll be summer and expect the weather to be in the high 70s during the day and dip down to the 40s at night. We're providing the wedding dinner and a few other feasts for special events (see calendar above), but you'll be responsible for all your other meals. Also, please ask us if you have any questions!
The Actual Event
The wedding is on Saturday, June 17th. The two of us will have to get a little dressed up, but the affair will be rustically casual....whatever that means. You can dress up a little bit for the ceremony if you please, but please focus on comfort and having fun! Some ideas: for men, a button down shirt with comfortable pants. For women, a dress with sandals or flats. It may get chilly at night, so please bring an outer layer so you don't get too cold. Please no men in shorts for the ceremony - nobody wants to see that.
Alright, Where You Registered?
Since this isn't a *real* wedding per se, we're not going to ask for any real gifts. You're giving up a week of your life for us, isn't that enough? If you're really keen, we'd love for you to offer your services as a helper around the campsite. We will need assistance decorating, cooking/BBQing, doing dishes, and keeping the camp clean. You can also participate in our "Feed a Canadian" program wherein you take one of our Canadian guests with you when you go to the grocery store. We will be sure to ask for help when we need it but if you're itching for something to do at the event just ask!
